If so, the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) ‘Stepping Into’ Internship Program can help you to gain paid, practical work experience relating to various degrees and related disciplines.

DCJ works with the Australian Network on Disability (AND) to offer paid internship opportunities for university students with disability.

We are currently looking for interns for the Winter 2023 intake. The internship will take place between June-August 2023.

**The opportunity**

The Strategic Projects Unit team are looking for an intern who brings enthusiasm and drive to the role of Project Support Officer.

**What you’ll do**

If you are interested in pursuing project work with a focus on helping young people this may be the opportunity for you

As part of this internship opportunity, you may be tasked with:

- Support with the working groups (Multicultural Advisory working group, Wellbeing working party) and partnering with internal stakeholders and working groups.
- Conducting research, information gathering and advice preparation.
- Working on the delivery of key strategies including Disability Action Plan and Domestic and Family Violence Strategy.
- Participation in and support with other Directorate projects

If the successful intern is interested, they may have the opportunity to work on:

- Disability Champions initiative by sourcing resources and sharing information to support their role in info sharing with frontline colleagues.
- Support measurement and reporting of the Disability Action Plan by talking to staff responsible for internal projects and gathering updates.
- Disability Toolkit for young people.
- Disability support for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

**The team**

Strategic Project Units (SPU) - provides strategic oversight to Youth Justice NSW (YJNSW) on key government initiatives that may impact young people in the criminal justice system, including Ministerial and other government level responses. SPU coordinates YJNSW responses by consulting and collaborating with internal stakeholders and also delivers key portfolio's of work such as:

- YJNSW Child Safe Scheme and Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Strategy
- YJNSW Disability Action Plan
- Diversity and inclusion work such as LGBTQIA+ policy work
- Information sharing and MOU agreements with key partners
