**About this role**
NSW Health operates a world leading drug surveillance and early warning system, protecting the health and wellbeing of the community. The role leads this program and the team responsible for it.
This rapid surveillance program collects intelligence to inform signal detection, conduct risk assessments and implement public health responses. The program uses data from police seizures, and toxicology from hospitalisations and coronial investigations. The team also analyse alcohol and other drugs epidemiology using data from surveys, wastewater, ambulance, poisons centre, emergency department presentations, hospitalisations and deaths.
The role coordinates responses with NSW Health Pathology, NSW Ambulance, NSW Police Force and NSW Poisons Information Centre, and other stakeholders. The role also leads a multidisciplinary team providing timely advice to the Government. Building networks, maintaining trust, strategic leadership and communicating complex information, are critical skills for this role.

**What you'll be doing**
This role manages the Toxicity Response, Epidemiology and Surveillance team within the Centre for Alcohol and Other Drugs to:
- lead surveillance, analysis and reporting of drug epidemiology, use and related harms
- lead environmental scanning and reporting for emerging issues and substances of concern
- undertake triage and risk assessment of drug and poisoning incidents that may impact public health
- lead the monitoring and coordination of the public health response to toxicity incidents
- lead a multidisciplinary team including an epidemiologist, biostatistician and public health/clinical toxicology registrar
- develop and maintain alcohol and other drugs epidemiology and early warning stakeholder relationship in government and non-government organisations across Australia.
**About you**
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals with Essential Requirements:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health surveillance and reporting or related discipline or equivalent professional experience
- Extensive experience working in epidemiology, surveillance, or biostatistics; and experience working in AoD, pharmacology or toxicology
- Current knowledge of population health information, analytics and monitoring systems and good analytical, conceptual and communication skills
