**The Role**
The duties of an APS 6 Work Health and Safety Officer in Defence include but not limited to:

- Accountable for research and analysis activities to identify and address work health and safety risks to capability.
- Develop and implement work health and safety programs.
- Contribute to implementation and continuous improvement of work health and safety management systems in accordance with legislation and Defence policies.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex and sensitive work health and safety issues.
- Evaluate activities and processes for compliance with work health and safety legislation, policies and procedures.
- Resolve problems using professional expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action and implications for work health and safety activities.

**About our Team**
From 2024, the Adelaide based 10th Fires Brigade will grow from a small capability implementation team, to a Formation (Brigade) Headquarters tasked to command operational Ground Based Air Defence capability (eNASAMS), and introduce into service Army’s Land Based Long Range Strike platform (HIMARS). Headquarters 10 Brigade is designed to conduct all governance, administrative, safety, and financial oversight, as well as capability management comparable with any current full time Brigade Headquarters within Army.

Located within RAAF Based Edinburgh, 10 Brigade will see significant growth over coming years as new capabilities are introduced into service, setting up 10 Brigade as the predominate land based force element in South Australia. As the Brigade Headquarters of capabilities prioritised in the 2023 Defence Strategic Review, 10 Brigade is postured to provide its staff an enduring and meaning role in South Australia for the foreseeable future.
- Solid stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to build and maintain internal relationships, manage sensitive and confidential information whilst maintaining strong ethics and discretion.
- Experience in leading, mentoring and coaching a small team, setting work priorities and managing workflow and resources, whilst working with mínimal supervision.
- Strong project, program and risk management skills, including a demonstrated ability to work on multiple activities concurrently, manage competing priorities and adhere to strict deadlines to achieve results in a high pressure environment.
- A demonstrated understanding of WHS legislation, principles, better practice and certification requirements to support and improve the delivery of WHS strategy and services to achieve organisational outcomes**.**
