THE ROLE

The Australian Proteome Analysis Facility (APAF) at Macquarie University is seeking a proactive and experienced expert who is ready to join our team as Facility Manager.

APAF is a NATA accredited facility within the Macquarie Analytical and Fabrication Facility (MAFF), providing research support, expertise and services in proteomics to the Australian and international research community. The facility currently hosts significant infrastructure and specialist expertise in mass spectrometry based proteomics (bottom up, top down, protein interactions), mass photometry, amino acid analysis, array technology and bioinformatics.

Managing a core facility which provides research infrastructure of national significance, you will also lead a high performing team of technical specialists. With 5 direct reports, and a current team of 15 FTE, this is an exciting opportunity to take a lead role in the delivery of the Australian Proteome Analysis Facility (APAF) strategic direction and manage APAF in the delivery of high quality, specialist and sustainable services to internal and external researchers and clients.

Reporting to the Head of Macquarie Analytical & Fabrication Facility (MAFF), you will:
- Provide strategic advice, support and recommendations to the Head of MAFF and key stakeholders on APAF related services and opportunities- Develop and drive the delivery of strategic and operational plans for APAF developed in conjunction with key Academic leadership, and oversee their operationalisation- Lead and develop the high performing team of professional staff within APAF-
- Oversee the APAF budget including budget build, maintenance, tracking, review and reporting- Build, manage and maintain strong and productive relationships with key internal and external clients and stakeholders across MQ, and Australian and international industry, government, universities, research institutions and funding bodies- Oversee accreditation (including NATA) and APAF quality management systems, ensuring that audits are undertaken regularly, and all accreditation and quality assurance requirements are met

About Us

APAF is part of the Macquarie Analytical and Fabrication Facility (MAFF), a shared research infrastructure facility which sits within the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Macquarie University. APAF is also supported by Bioplatforms Australia (BPA) through funding from the Australian Government National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), and is proudly accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025.

MAFF includes a highly diverse range of analytical instrumentation and research facilities which include (in addition to APAF): the Macquarie University Centre for Analytical Biotechnology (MUCAB), NMR facility, Microscopy Unit, the Macquarie Engineering Technical Services workshop (METS) and the Material Characterisation and Analysis Facility (MCAF).

The facility of APAF houses a range of specialist instrumentation, and has a team of expert technical staff who manage these instruments and the facilities, as well as analyse samples and develop methods on these instruments. The Facility supports research from internal and external clients through access to instrumentation with training and support from the APAF team; and through project work completed as a service by the APAF team.

- Demonstrated excellent working knowledge of industry drivers associated with proteomics- Proven financial and resource planning experience, including budget planning and management and procurement- Strong evidence of entrepreneurial ability and proven capacity to develop business opportunities, particularly in line with the National Research Infrastructure Strategy- Demonstrated experience building and leading effective teams to deliver specialised analytical services and support to the national research community- Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including networking capability with a client centric approach- Ability and capacity to direct and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of a quality management system
