About the Role
As the Guidance Officer - Student Wellbeing you will have responsibility for the following:

- Providing direct support to students and/ or families who have been referred for counselling and support for mild-moderate mental health needs.
- Provide professional expertise, leadership and support to school communities and networks in the development and implementation of plans, programs, and procedures to assist students with mild to moderate mental health concerns to achieve positive educational, developmental and lifelong learning outcomes.
- Conduct evidence based early intervention counselling sessions.
- Support students following a critical incident or emergency, ensuring their wellbeing is monitored and supported.
- Work closely with referring team providing feedback and value adding to the student's learning engagement.
- Provide group therapy to a small group of students with related mental health concern/s Engage in timely and ongoing communication with Principals and Deputy Principals (e.g. critical incidents, SP4s).
- Participate in external stakeholder and case management meetings (e.g. DoCs, CYMHS etc.).
- Keep accurate, comprehensive and confidential records and plans
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitate effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, school personnel and external support agencies in order to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service that optimises students' access and engagement in educational programs.
- Deliver professional training and development to school staff in the area of mental health and wellbeing
- Participate in relevant professional development, and prepare and implement professional and personal skill development programs and in service activities for administrators, teachers and parents.
- Provide leadership and specialised support in response to student protection issues; critical incidents and emergencies.
- Balance the ethical issues of privacy and confidentiality for each student with the appropriateness of sharing information with others, and maintain a comprehensive and professional record keeping system that complies with policy and legal requirements of parental and legal access to official records.
