RoadTek is a commercial business within the Department of Transport and Main Roads. We provide transport infrastructure solutions for projects across Queensland. RoadTek consists of a fleet of more than 1300 assets spread across 9 operations units. The workshop teams maintain a core fleet to satisfy operational unit requirements to facilitate the delivery of transport infrastructure maintenance, works and services across Queensland.
In the role of Mechanical Tradesperson you will undertake mechanical maintenance activities in both a workshop and field environment ensuring equipment is kept in a safe and reliable condition.
**Some of your responsibilities will include**:
- Undertake repairs, servicing, and preventative maintenance of a modern fleet of trucks, trailers, earthmoving, and auxiliary equipment.
- Attend breakdowns, diagnose faults (including use of diagnostic tools), and complete repairs of equipment in both workshop and field environments and perform non-structural fabrication and welding activities.
- Completion of accurate and timely verbal and written communication as required - examples include, but are not limited to, time sheets, work orders, service reporting and recording and processing maintenance information.
- Follow safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety and Environmental Protection Agency Legislation.
- Hazard identification and completion of risk assessments to ensure own safety and contribute to a safe work environment.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions
- Completion of an apprenticeship in a trade such as a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or similar equivalent trade certificate qualification
- QLD Open 'C Class' Drivers Licence. The successful applicant will be required to work to obtain a HR Class Drivers Licence within a reasonable time following commencement.
- Periodically work a weekend roster or other roster to undertake workshop or field service activities.
- Participation in an afterhours call out roster as required.
- As a Mechanical Tradesperson, you may be required or have an opportunity, to travel to other service locations to undertake workshop or field service activities for varying periods of time. You will be entitled to expenses and allowances for such travel as per relevant awards/agreements.
Desirable qualifications
- Refrigerant handling licence or equivalent, or any other heavy vehicle or plant associated licence or certificate, or willingness to obtain as continued professional development.
- High Risk LF Forklift Truck licence.
- RoadTek will consider the relevance of other qualifications you may hold to the Mechanical Tradesperson position and review possible learning pathways to obtain:
- AUR 31120 Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology; or
- MEM 31419 Engineering - Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic
