The University of Newcastle has a proud tradition in Indigenous higher education with high numbers of Indigenous graduates and strong links to communities. The Wollotuka Institute has been at the core of this success, supporting all stakeholders with Indigenous education.

The Indigenous Strategy and Leadership office, led by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Strategy and Leadership, within the Vice-Chancellor’s Division is responsible for driving an Indigenous Strategy across the University and provide a broad range of support externally to the community and internally to all Colleges and Divisions.

The position will lead the management of the governance structures surrounding the Aboriginal Health Research strategy, including the community panel and engagement with the Awabakal Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS), Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI).

In addition, you will:

- Lead the ongoing consultation with University staff and partners to influence and evolve the Aboriginal Health Research strategy.
- Proactively build and maintain external relationships with communities, industry and professions that give profile and prominence to the University as a national and international leader in Aboriginal Health Research and Indigenous matters
- Work with leaders from the University, Awabakal AMS, HNELHD and HMRI to ensure that processes are adopted and embedded into structure, policy and procedure
- Provide strategic support and advice to senior staff in relation to Aboriginal Health Research and other matters across the University, Awabakal AMS, HNELHD and HMRI.
- Prepare and present presentations to the University Council and Executive Committee on the progress and evolution of the Aboriginal Health Research strategy.

This contingent position is full time and will be located at the Callaghan Campus (Awabakal and Worimi Country) with flexible work arrangements

- High-level interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated capacity to deal sensitively with difficult issues
- Strong communication skills and experience engaging and communicating with groups of people, tailoring communication to suit specific cohorts
- Negotiation and influence skills; the ability to influence and gain cooperation of internal and external stakeholders to create and maintain mutually beneficial relationships and drive outcomes
- The ability to effectively plan and manage multiple tasks independently and as part of a team and a desire to work collaboratively to achieve outcomes

**What we offer**

The remuneration for this position is from $102,667 +17% superannuation and is commensurate with skills and experience.
