An opportunity exists for three Principal Policy Officers to join the Regulation Policy Branch on varying tenures. As a Principal Policy Officer, you are responsible for leading the department’s Consumer Affairs policy function and supporting the Minister for Consumer Affairs in administering their legislative portfolio. Principal Policy Officers lead the delivery of Housing Statement initiatives, plan and monitor program initiatives, review legislation and provide advice to senior executives and the Minister for Consumer Affairs.

**About us**

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

**About the role**

An opportunity exists for three Principal Policy Officers to join the Regulation Policy Branch on varying tenures. As a Principal Policy Officer, you are responsible for leading the department's Consumer Affairs policy function and supporting the Minister for Consumer Affairs in administering their legislative portfolio. Principal Policy Officers lead the delivery of Housing Statement initiatives, plan and monitor program initiatives, review legislation and provide advice to senior executives and the Minister for Consumer Affairs.

A passion for policy, effective communication and stakeholder management skills coupled with your expert project management experience will see you succeed in this role.

Contracts available:

- One ongoing
- One 36-month fixed term contract
- One 12-month fixed term contract

**About you**

To be considered for the role, you must demonstrate:

- Proven ability to formulate policy and legislation options and advice
- Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Takes into account wider business context within business unit when considering options to resolve issues. Identifies recurring problems and prevents future recurrence by integrating solutions into work process
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Works to find new ways to deliver outcomes; recognises the merits of different options and acts accordingly; has courage to alter strategies in situations when there are clear indications of existing strategy may not deliver the best outcome; where significant amount of effort or investment has been put in. Builds commitment of others to adopt new strategies to deliver against outcomes.
- Stakeholder Management: Identifies issues in common for one or more clients or stakeholders and uses them to build mutually beneficial partnerships; identifies and responds to stakeholder's underlying needs; uses understanding of the stakeholder's organisational context to ensure outcomes are achieved.
