Come and join a team that is delivering best practices in data management and technical services that is genuinely empowering the BCT to continue to deliver conservation benefits for NSW. The Technical Services Officer is a member of a state-wide Programs team and plays a key role in blending technical ‘know how’ with on-ground delivery of conservation initiatives, strategic planning, decision support and policy development.
In this role, you will lead the provision of technical data services with activities including data management and analysis, troubleshooting, training, and input into development of systems, tools, and procedures.
You will work collaboratively with regional staff across the organisation to ensure best practice methods in the collection, management, analysis, and reporting of biodiversity and land management data and are upheld. You’ll be helping empower the delivery of private land conservation agreements for landholders across NSW.
This role is predominantly office-based with occasional opportunities to participate in field-based work, involving travel to and work in remote areas.

**Knowledge and Experience**
- Extensive experience with geographical information systems particularly ESRI products (ArcGIS Desktop, Pro, and Online, Web AppBuilder, Survey123, Field Maps,). Experience with FME would be an advantage.
- Experience in the analysis and management of environmental and natural resources data.

**About Us**
The Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is a small, focussed agency with a clear statutory mission and functions. We manage over 2,000 existing long-term agreements with landholders by actively supporting them to protect biodiversity on their land, and we have funded strategies to grow private land conservation. We have an important statutory role as part of delivering conservation outcomes under the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme.
We are a group of motivated staff delivering high-integrity biodiversity outcomes in NSW, under the direction of a strong statutory Board. A majority of staff are regionally located, and we value respectful, collaborative culture internally and with our stakeholders.
**About the team**
This role is positioned within the Agreements and Technical Services Team of the BCT, a high performing team of content experts who have a leading role in driving strategic direction and standards. This role will provide a unique opportunity to work closely with the BCT Principal Technical Officer and Senior Technical Officers to lead a series of strategic projects that continue to underpin the rigour and integrity of the work the BCT delivers upon. It's an exciting, challenging and important role that is helping to ensure that the BCT has the evidence it needs to make informed decisions around future priorities and investment.
In this role you will:
- Provide technical support for staff for data aggregation, maintenance and analysis associated with the establishment, administration, and monitoring of private land conservation agreements in NSW.
- Train and support staff in use of GIS technology for field based assessment and monitoring work.
- Source information and respond to internal requests for specialised GIS techniques including data manipulation, analysis, mapping and reporting within strict timeframes.
- Provide a wide range of highly technical services including troubleshooting, data management, spatial analysis and map production, advice and recommendations to address operational issues.
- Undertake data management to ensure the effective and efficient capture and storage of spatial data and maintenance of data quality standards.
- Participate in the design and implementation of systems for spatial data capture, data storage and analysis to ensure BCT personnel have ready and reliable access to spatial data sets and associated analyses.
