**About the role**
This is a new role, providing leadership and guidance within the delivery of practices with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families. Reporting to the Executive Director CYF QLD this role will also work alongside the National Executive Director of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Practice and Partnerships. With the goal of achieving Life Without Barriers’ Elevate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) objectives through developing and nurturing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations.
The position offers an opportunity to lead and drive positive change in the organisation’s approach to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and will play a vital role in improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families in the child protection and out-of-home care sector. This is a permanent full-time role, based in Queensland.
**Key responsibilities**
- Train, coach and advise frontline teams on how to best embed culturally safe and responsive practice.
- Contribute to the development of policies and guidelines that promote self-determination and reconciliation.
- Develop and support partnerships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations.
- Work to progress LWB’s commitment to transition the care of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO).
- Partner with local leaders and teams to implement initiatives aligned to the LWB Strategy, RAP, Family Matters and Closing the Gap.
- Ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people lead our practice and direction to improve culturally safe and targeted services.
**Skills and experience**
- Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Experience in a senior leadership role in child protection, Out of Home Care, or related sector.
- Proven experience in building and maintaining relationships and partnerships with key Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations, Elders, stakeholders, government agencies, accrediting bodies, Peak Organisations, and NGOs.
- Extensive knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Protocols in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities in contemporary society.

You will be required to provide contact details for a cultural referee who can comment on your knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities in contemporary society and your ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The cultural referee must also identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
