VPS-4 Intelligence Analyst
Forensic Services has a vacancy for an ongoing placement as an Intelligence Analyst in the Forensic Intelligence & IT Management Unit. This position has a focus on developing the Forensic Intelligence capability in relation to the Forensic Drug Intelligence Capability Program (FDICP), providing intelligence which supports investigations into illicit drug trafficking related incidents and community harm. In addition, the role incorporates data gathering, validation, wrangling, integration and presentation of data within visual analytics tools, along with analysis of drug and drug harm relevant datasets to produce insights for inclusion in intelligence products.

**Key duties for the role include**:

- Managing the collection, evaluation, collation, analysis and controlled dissemination of information and intelligence in support of Forensic services and operations.
- Making recommendations based on analysis of Forensic intelligence and related statistical data, identification and evaluation of emerging patterns and trends in crime, road policing and public order.
- Participating in the design, execution and writing of reports and intelligence products aimed at improving Forensic intelligence and the Department's contribution to front line policing.
- Performing analysis on crime-related and/or other trends, or risks impacting Forensic operations, with a focus on drug driven analysis and trends.
- Identifying, researching and analysing patterns, trends, linked crime (with particular focus on drugs and drug harm) and making recommendations on developed Forensic intelligence to senior management and internal or external stakeholders and investigators.
- Gathering, performing validation, wrangling, integration and presentation of data within visual analytics tools to drug and drug harm relevant datasets to produce insights for inclusion in intelligence products.

The person
Ideally the successful applicant would have well developed intelligence tradecraft, a proven intelligence track record complemented by a sound data engineering and analytics skillset. The ability to communicate effectively is imperative for the preparation of oral and written material for dissemination and presentation to stakeholders. Working knowledge of the various Forensics units would also be an advantage.

**More specific Skills and Experience required are**:

- Experience in research and analysis and preferably knowledge of, or experience in, intelligence analysis, strategic planning, criminology or other relevant academic disciplines
- An appreciation of information and intelligence management processes and intelligence end user needs from a Forensic perspective
- Well-developed writing and oral communication skills and proven ability to plan and organise work and produce high quality results
- Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills, including knowledge and experience in developing data queries utilising contemporary data analysis, statistical and intelligence software packages
- Demonstrated possession of attributes which would enable the performance of duties in a highly sensitive security environment and demonstrated absence of a relevant criminal record and/or association with persons with a criminal record.

**Requirements and relevant information**:

- Ongoing full-time position available.
- Position is located at 31 Forensic Drive Macleod, Victoria.
- Starting salary will be at the base level of the VPS-4 salary range.
- Effective March 1, 2023 - Salary range for VPS4 will be $91,418 - $103,725
- The position may require the incumbent to work outside the ordinary hours e.g. (Shift work/Overtime/On-call) and attend scenes of incident response centres
