Lead Economist

**The following would be highly regarded for this role**:
- Tertiary qualification in Economics or related discipline, as well as experience working in an applied economics role
- Experience in managing a work program, dealing with competing priorities, and mobilising resources to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of (or proven ability to quickly acquire knowledge of) the Queensland's resources sector, and the opportunities and challenges presented by geopolitical factors, environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, and the transition to a low carbon economy. Ability to collect, collate, analyse and interpret and communicate both qualitative and quantitative information through a variety of formats, including graphically, continuously updated data sets, and through written case studies, reports and briefs
- Proven ability to communicate technical concepts in an accessible, non-technical manner
- Travel away from the centre may be required. This may involve travel outside of normal office hours and/or overnight accommodation
- Out of hours and weekend work may be required
**Key Duties and Accountabilities**:
- Undertake significant and complex research and analysis to enhance the Department's understanding of the state's resources sector, including companies involved in exploration, production, processing and the State's coal, mineral and gas resources, as well as supply-side and demand-side trends affecting the sector
- Guide, support and enhance the team's capabilities by mentoring, coaching and demonstrating best practice in qualitative and quantitative analysis, data management, data visualisation, research, report writing, and analysing data and information to provide insights
- Communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner to provide high level expert advice, information and support to senior management, the Minister's office, and external clients as required in relation to issues and trends affecting Queensland's geological resources sector
- Organise, manage, and prioritise qualitative and quantitative information to produce meaningful and accurate reports for both internal and external clients in response to ad hoc and ongoing needs
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with team members, customers and stakeholders to promote quality information exchange and collaboration
- Contribute to the business improvement initiatives within the Geological Survey of Queensland
- Other duties as directed and required
The role is based in the Georesources Intelligence (Intel) team of the Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ) within the Georesources Division of the Department of Resources.
