The focus of the Australian Research Council (ARC) funded Research Hub is on redesigning materials, fibres and têxtiles for:

- Greater sustainability and a circular economy
- Extraordinary properties and functionality

In this role, you will work within the second theme, with emphasis on motorcycle rider apparel and protective clothing. Focus will be on the performance of ageing protective clothing, impact protection, gaps in design and potential technology and educational improvements to enhance rider safety. The work will be part of a collaboration with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).

**Your key responsibilities will include**:

- Building awareness of industry partners and participates in opportunities for research partnerships
- Begin to build track record of timely delivery of outcomes for industry partners
- Developing working relationship with mentors and supervisors
- Developing early career research plan with guidance from mentors and supervisors
- Adopting a culture of research excellence, innovation and impact
- Building awareness of relevant industry partners and opportunities for HDRs/ECRs placements
- University Citizenship and Engagement_
- Contributing to Deakin community and its effectiveness via local engagement and citizenship activities
- Understanding the objectives and outcomes to be delivered by the University’s strategic agenda
- Contributing to community beyond Deakin via engagement activities
- Supporting Deakin community engagement plan

**Key selection criteria for this role**:

- Qualifications and experience_
- PhD in material science or another relevant research area
- emerging research and scholarship through publications in the materials science or impact discipline
- ability to make a contribution to communities through research
- capacity to contribute to research and administration
- excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
- Ability to make a contribution to community engagement for research
