The Technical Officer provide technical support to the academic teaching and research programs within the School of Medicine, by ensuring practical and technical services delivered in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.

The incumbent will work with and support other members of the School of Medicine Technical Team to monitor compliance with regards to biological and chemical management, inventory, and waste disposal.

**Your key responsibilities will include**:

- Provide technical expertise for the School’s teaching programs in Medicine, Optometry, Medical Imaging and Biomedicine. Complete set up and pack down of practical classes and examinations, including preparation and maintenance of human and animal specimens, simulation mannequins and models, clinical equipment, molecular biology materials.
- Coordinate on a day-to-day basis, materials and equipment requirements of staff and students for the running of practical classes within disciplines of expertise clarifying expectations and responding promptly to resolve technical problems, issues, and requirements to ensure client needs met to agreed standards and timelines.
- Understand local processes, prepare standard documents, manage records, regularly track progress of work tasks, and identify key issues.
- Provide support and advice to staff and students regarding the ordering, management, safe use, and disposal of chemicals, biologicals, equipment, and consumables.
- Contribute to maintenance of research and teaching facilities by performing regular housekeeping tasks.
- Monitor and maintain occupational health and safety requirements with regards to laboratory practices, including conducting regular inspections.
- Recognise the importance of teamwork and of effective communication amongst team members and build rapport within immediate team and diverse range of stakeholders in ways that are respectful and inclusive of others.

**To be successful, you’ll have**:

- Completion of a Degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or
- Completion of an Associate Diploma and at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- Experience working in a laboratory setting, ideally within a tertiary education environment
- Good knowledge of OH&S (Occupational Health and Safety) principles and an understanding of the requirements for safety when working with biological and chemical hazards
