About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Lead in MND Research to join our team for a NSW Ministry of Health funded research project. The goal of the project is to establish a pilot surveillance unit at Macquarie University for understanding the epidemiology of motor neuron disease (MND) in New South Wales. The Project Lead will manage and oversee the research activities to ensure the project achieves key milestones and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert direction and project management support for the planning, implementation and reporting for the research project and activities.-
- Undertake research, collect and analyse data and information, and make recommendations to the project head and stakeholders to make informed decision on project deliverables.-
- Lead the development of databases and other digital tools to support the projects, ensuring alignment with best practice and relevant policies.- Manage partnerships with strategic stakeholder organisations.- Oversee and monitor relevant project cost codes and manage project budgets, including reporting.- Prepare research data documents and reports for presentation and publication.
About Us
Macquarie Medical School is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) at Macquarie University. FMHHS is ambitiously pushing the boundaries of progressive thinking and challenging what is possible to solve some of the big issues of our time, both nationally and on a global scale. The Faculty forms part of MQ Health, an integrated academic health sciences enterprise which incorporates Macquarie University Hospital and primary and speciality clinics. We have active research programs in neurosciences (especially motor neuron disease, neurological rehabilitation, and the clinical neuroscience of pain), cancer medicine, and vascular science, amongst others.
Research for motor neurone disease (MND) and Parkinson’s disease includes sponsored and investigator-initiated Phase I to IV trials, grant-funded research projects and academic research. We operate the largest Neurodegenerative Disease Biobank in Australia with over 70,000 biological samples supporting more than 30 research projects globally. Macquarie University Private Hospital runs patient clinics, labs, imaging and a pharmacy all on campus in close proximity to support clinical trials and support providing patients with access to state-of-the-art treatments.
About You
You will be an excellent communicator with strong project management, planning and execution skills. You will hold a Bachelor’s degree in a health related field with analytical skills and several years of highly relevant clinical research experience. Your interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels will be key to success in this role, as will your proven ability to proactively manage project deliverables and work both independently and in a team.

Essential Criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline coupled with extensive experience and expertise in managing research projects in public health and/or neurodegenerative diseases- Experience effectively managing high recruiting and fast recruiting including with experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research methodology and working on epidemiological surveys and/or clinical trials- Experience with risk evaluation, management and mitigation in clinical research-
- Computer skills including MS Office (particularly Word and Excel), Internet, and database management such as REDCap along with experience preparing communications and project reports- Excellent interpersonal skills including experience building and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders to collaborately achieve project deliverables
Desirable Criteria:
- Masters and/or PhD qualifications in a relevant health-related or data science field- Experience using statistical software such as SPSS- Experience working with patients and health care professionals
