**Pathology Technician Grade 2 - Anatomical Pathology**
**Casual position**
Pathology - The Royal Melbourne Hospital

A casual Pathology technician - Grade 2 role in our Anatomical Pathology Department at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. The purpose of this role is to work within Anatomical Pathology to provide support to all areas of the laboratory. The main duties of this role will encompass the provision of technical and administrative expertise in the areas which include Histology - Routine and Special, Cytology, Anatomical Pathology Administration and Mortuary - particularly deceased patient management.

Experience in a laboratory setting is preferred but not essential, with experience in mortuary duties preferred. Applicants with experience in the funeral industry are also encouraged to apply. Following suitable training, you will be required to provide technical and administrative support to the department of Anatomical Pathology.

**Duties include**:

- Deceased patient management.
- Laboratory specimen disposal and laboratory waste management.
- Laboratory temperature control monitoring.
- Slide/Block file maintenance - Receive and send out slides/blocks.
- Prepare reports and select slides for meetings.
- Archive Laboratory material as required.
- Chemical waste management.
- Maintain laboratory chemicals.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory stock.
- As required, any other errands requested.

The Victorian Department of Health has recently announced a program of reforms across the public pathology system in Victoria. As part of these reforms, the pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital will go through a change process to transition to a new separate public pathology entity. The new model for delivering public pathology services will present an exciting opportunity to improve the scope, scale and reach of pathology services and testing capability to all Victorians.
