**Purpose**
The Civil Maintenance Trainee will perform operational activities associated with preventative and responsive civil
maintenance works, whilst undertaking Certificate III Water Industry Operations.
**Key Duties/Responsibilities**
As a member of the Maintenance Delivery team, the incumbent will be expected to:
- Work within a small work team undertaking preventative and responsive civil maintenance activities.
- Take personal accountability over safety and contribute to a proactive safety culture within the team.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and complete details required for CHW Works Management
Systems. Including:
o Accurately update work order information in the field, immediately after completing work activity, both
during normal work hours and after hours; or
- If an approved deferrable reason applies complete phone update via Dispatch Team and complete
full report at next available opportunity.
- Ensure customer needs are considered during maintenance works and disruption is kept to a minimum.
- Keep customers informed about the progress of works and present an effective liaison between CHW and its
customers.
- Perform all duties in accordance with CHW procedures and practices meeting all safety and environmental
requirements.
- Participate and contribute in team discussions to continuously improve maintenance practices.
- Assist in carrying out regular audits and inspections of fleet, plant tools, materials and equipment.
- Participate in out-of-office hours roster as required.
- Other duties as directed.
**. Authority and Accountability**
- Responsible for the completion of basic tasks involving a range of basic skills under established
practices and procedures.
- Work is monitored under supervision either individually or in a team environment.
- At all times, create, maintain and foster a safe work environment and ensure compliance with the
provisions of the Occupational Health and safety Act, Regulations, and CHW policies and procedures.
- Accountable for satisfactory completion of all studies/development expectations related to the
apprenticeship qualification within specified timeframes.
- Accountable for satisfactory completion of all assigned mandatory training.
**. Judgement and Decision Making**
- Judgement is limited to the tasks to be performed, and may involve the use of a limited range of tools,
techniques and methods within a specified range of work.
- Required to resolve minor problems in a timely manner.
- Guidance is always available from more senior Civil Maintenance Officers
**. Specialist Knowledge and Skills**
- A demonstrated understanding of the safety risks and relevant controls associated with civil construction
work.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, internet, and specialist software
