The portfolio of External Engagement is responsible for connecting the University with core stakeholders including philanthropists, alumni, government, volunteers, the media, and the broader community. It is made up of six collaborative and high performing teams: Strategic Communications, Development, Centre for Ideas, News and Content, External Engagement and Operations.

The primary focus of the Alumni Engagement Officer is to drive forward strategic alumni engagement initiatives. In 2023, as part of a dynamic and highly creative team, the Alumni Engagement Officer will be responsible for advancing a strategic pillar of the newly established Alumni Experience Strategy - Pillar 3: Together, Empowering Change. This pillar is all about impact:

- Recognising and celebrating the positive social impact our graduate community are driving globally as the lead of our Alumni Awards program
- Building our ideas eco-system through working closely with the Centre for Ideas
- Connecting alumni to causes they care about through working with the Development Team
- Driving partnerships with industry and government
- Participating in University wide social impact projects

The Alumni Engagement Officer reports to the Alumni Experience Manager and has no direct reports.

**Responsibilities**
- Develop and implement strategies for engaging with various uni-wide alumni segments such as those graduates based overseas, or new graduates.
- Lead alumni engagement projects as required.
- Act as a key point of contact and expert on alumni engagement across the Division of External Engagement, and broader University.
- Work collaboratively and productively with Alumni Engagement Coordinators based in faculties.
- Use alumni data responsibly by following all established processes, identifying and addressing issues as they arise, and undergoing training as appropriate.
- Work effectively with alumni and alumni representative groups, acting as relationship manager and key point of contact where required.
- Prepare reports, high-level confidential presentations, discussion papers and general responses to issues arising and ensure effective communication at all levels.
- Manage relationships with senior stakeholders, being responsible for their interactions with UNSW.
- Take responsibility for design and execution of strategy for engaging with uni-wide alumni segments as required.
- Support the Alumni Experience Manager in internal meetings.

**Skills and Experience**
- A relevant tertiary qualification and substantial experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proven experience in the research, development, delivery and evaluation of strategic engagement programs, initiatives, and projects.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute strategically to the work of the team, and to innovate in the delivery of programs and initiatives.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to engage, influence and negotiate with stakeholders to garner support and commitment for projects.
- Proven ability to manage a substantial workload with multiple priorities, and mínimal supervision.
