**The Opportunity**

As a Research Associate, will conduct fundamental and applied research to enhance the performance of advanced carbon fibre composites at cryogenic liquid hydrogen temperature, which is a part of a discovery project funded by the Australia Research Council. This position will give you the opportunity to develop your research skills and output through your contribution to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals, participating in conferences and workshops and actively engaging with industry partners.

This role reports to the Dr Susann Beier and has no direct reports.
- Salary, Level A - $100,318 to $107,299 per annum + 17% superannuation
- Full time
- Fixed-term contract - 12 months
- Location: Kensington - Sydney, Australia

**Skills & Experience**
- PhD (or soon to be awarded) in mechanical or materials engineering or related area.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
- Experience in computational modelling (such as finite element analysis) of mechanical and fracture properties of fibre reinforced composites.
- Skills in the design, manufacturing, and experimental characterisation carbon fibre composites under mechanical, thermal, and impact loadings.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
