**About us**

We are a dynamic, hard-working team supporting the work of the Legislative Council - the Upper House of the NSW Parliament. The Upper House is a 'House of Review', and acts as a check and balance on the Executive Government. The Department of the Legislative Council supports the activities of the House, including its sittings, committee inquiries, protocol and corporate responsibilities. It also undertakes communication and engagement activities to inform and educate the community, as well as key internal and external stakeholders.

The Department has three parts: the Procedure Office, the Corporate and Bicentenary (Black Rod) Office, and the Committee Office.

Department staff strive to provide exceptional services to our key stakeholders, which range from the President of the Legislative Council to members of the public. Staff also work in collaboration with the Department of the Legislative Assembly and the Department of Parliamentary Services to ensure the effective running of the Parliament.

**About the position**

We are seeking a highly motivated and suitably experienced Principal Council Officer (PCO) to join the Corporate and Bicentenary (Black Rod) Office.

The PCO - Black Rod plays a significant role in the management of the Fountain Court and Reconciliation Wall exhibition spaces, protocol, providing assistance in arranging significant events, such as those planned as part of the Bicentenary of the Legislative Council and briefing the President for their appearance at Budget Estimates. The PCO also assists in the preparation of procedural material as required.
