**Where you'll be working**
The Centre for Population Health (CPH) aims to promote health and prevent morbidity and mortality caused by modifiable risk factors. The CPH portfolio encompasses blood borne viruses, sexual health, tobacco and obesity. The strategies used to address these issues include state-wide policy and planning, legislation and regulation, program development, resource allocation, performance monitoring, research and evaluation.

The CPH works closely with service provider organisations such as Local Health Districts (LHDs) to manage and support the local delivery of agreed policies, programs and services across the state. Programs and services funded and/or supported by the CPH are delivered in government, non-government, community and clinical settings. The CPH approach is characterised by a focus on evidence-informed programmatic and system-level interventions that improve health, reduce health inequity, create healthy environments, promote community action, enable personal health-seeking and recognise the social determinants of good health.

Population Health Policy and Engagement Unit provides statewide leadership to promote healthy eating and active living to reduce overweight and obesity and chronic disease. The Food Policy Team is the NSW Health lead for National Ministerial Food Regulation and national food and nutrition policy processes. The team also leads NSW healthy food environment policies. The role of the Food Policy team is to:

- Lead policy initiatives to create healthy places in the community that enable people to make healthy food and drink choices.
- Develop a NSW Health policy position on National Ministerial Food Regulation initiatives and issues.
- Drive improvements in the food supply through NSW representation on national food and nutrition committees.

**What you'll be doing**
The **Principal Policy Analyst - Food Policy **provides high quality, strategic policy advice to senior executives and Ministers on state and national food regulation and policy issues, drawing on evidence and including consideration of the views of key stakeholders and a high-level understanding of inter
- agency and internal government processes.

Leads the development, implementation and evaluation of a program of work to support implementation of state and national food policy and regulation.

You may be asked to undertake further assessments as part of the recruitment process for this position, which may include, but is not limited to, psychometric assessment (e.g. personality and cognitive abilities assessments) and/or particular work tasks.

**Selection Criteria**
- High-level skills and experience in policy development, implementation and review at a state or national level, including inter-agency and inter-sectoral policy.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills and ability to interpret complex information rapidly and accurately with a view to determining an organisational or jurisdictional policy position.
- Sound understanding of public health nutrition and population health theory and practice.
- High-level oral and written communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills and demonstrated capacity to consult and negotiate effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including senior executive and Minister's offices.
- Superior organisational skills and capacity to successfully manage competing priorities and to deliver high quality products within agreed timeframes and budgets.
- Knowledge and understanding of the food supply and current food policy issues at a state and national level.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff and lead a team to achieve required results.
