- The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities.
- The Salvation Army Youthlink and selected headspace youth mental health centres in Western and Southwestern Sydney are working collaboratively to provide the headfyrst program. This is an innovative and free service for young people aged between 12 and 25 years experiencing co-existing AOD and mental health issues.
- About the role
- We are looking for an AOD Mental Health Clinician, to provide assessment, treatment and support for young people presenting with comorbidity involving AOD dependency and mental health in an innovative, responsive and flexible youth support service. This will be achieved through assessment, treatment matching, goal setting, regular review, ongoing counselling therapy consultations, exit strategy and follow up.
The main goal of the service is to assist young people to establish and maintain a positive, healthy lifestyle for themselves within the community, in a manner consistent with funding guidelines, ensuring service delivery to clients is appropriate, effective, compliant and of high quality.
- Reporting to the Social Services Coordinator, this is a max-term part-time (22.8 hours per week) position based in Blacktown, NSW. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Health Professionals Award Level 3.

- Provide high quality engagement, assessment, treatment and support to individuals and families who access Youthlink headfirst.
- Providing evidence-based counselling interventions for young people in the provision of evidence-based counselling services.
- Providing appropriate referral pathways and support for young people requiring further support.
- Provide evidence-based, practical, individualised behaviour assessment and support for young people with complex support needs.
- Provide a full range of recovery oriented therapeutic services that are strength based, and trauma informed by utilising a range of modalities including, but not limited to:
- AOD and mental health shared assessment
- Consultations with families, other service providers and health services.
- Counselling, including cognitive behavioural therapy, relapse prevention strategies, harm minimisation, AOD psychosocial education, ACT Therapy, and other cognitive-based psychotherapies.
- Family inclusion in client's recovery process such as mediation and family counselling.
- Group psychoeducation sessions and behavioural plans treatment and interventions.
You will have
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology (must hold Provisional Registration with AHPRA or have internship documentation sent to AHPRA within a fortnight of commencing employment).
- Clinical experience in providing evidence-based treatment.
- Ability to build rapport and engage with young people.
- Valid NSW Working with Children’s Check
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence
- Registered with relevant peak body
- Experience in the delivery of mental health services inclusive of specialist skills in assessing, managing and treating clients in a cross-cultural setting.
- Able to demonstrate the importance of and have a clear and strong understanding of the
value of teamwork
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to impart knowledge in a learning environment
- Able to demonstrate a flexible approach to service delivery
- Have a high degree of computer literacy, including demonstrated experience with report writing and electronic client information management systems
