**About the role**:
A fantastic ongoing opportunity to join Box Hill Institute as our International Student Wellbeing Officer
Within this role, you will provide a range of support, welfare, intervention services and programs to ensure the success of BHI’s international students. You will work closely to support stakeholders including teachers, students, and other Student Life team members to improve student retention and success and ensure an excellent student experience.
This position works closely with managers, teachers and the International Department to deliver highly-valued support strategies. The International Student Wellbeing Officer will be able to respond initially and appropriately to international students at risk of disengagement from education, which may be a result of study difficulties but also mental health, life, relationship, financial or welfare difficulties. The position contributes to educational excellence in the Faculties and Box Hill Institute‘s position as a quality education provider and a first choice for education and training.
The Student Life Team works cooperatively with students and teachers to provide an engaging, positive and supportive learning community enabling high student retention and success, where the student voice is heard, and is reflected positively internally and to prospective students and clients. The Student Life Team is an important part of BHI’s student value chain providing leadership in the development and delivery of a holistic, outstanding, and distinctive student experience so that the students have a seamless and improved end-to-end student experience.

**About You**:
- A relevant qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work, Counselling, or equivalent;
- Demonstrated significant experience in Youth Work, Community Services, Counselling or similar
- Sound experience in working to provide counselling, welfare, Youth Work or similar professional or educational support roles to vulnerable student groups, including the ability to provide individual support and liaise on their behalf
- Ability to provide timely and effective intervention in critical situations and to provide appropriate support and referral/s to students presenting with complex mental health and/or welfare concerns
- Experience to deal confidently and courteously with people at all levels and from diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to providing a high level of customer care in a student support role
- Demonstrates current and comprehensive knowledge of common issues affecting international students, with a sound working knowledge of visa protocols and the Department of Home Affairs. Demonstrates awareness of, and capacity to work within compliance requirements relating to the ESOS Act (2000) and the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students (2018)
- High standard of verbal and written communication, and the ability to organise information, maintain and manage student records and reporting, and proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office programs
- Capacity to work well under pressure with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and accommodate flexible hours
