**The Role**
We are seeking highly motivated science and technology leaders with a passion for delivering innovative and valued outcomes to Defence, and in accordance with the intent of the Defence Strategic Review, there are a number of new, exciting and challenging roles available. The Group Leader Aerial Systems Autonomy reports to the Research Leader Vehicle Autonomy and Dynamics and under broad guidance, is responsible for the provision of effective leadership of a group of scientists, engineers and technologists.

You will:

- Be accountable for leading a team, planning and managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
- Lead and commit to the enhancement of capabilities, information, knowledge and the transition of staff skills to meet project needs.
- Draw upon expertise in a specialised field of science and a broad understanding of the domain knowledge to lead and undertake research activities.
- Facilitate appropriate direction for the team by clearly communicating goals and objectives.
- Negotiate and influence stakeholders’ priorities and expectations to develop solutions to meet their needs.
- Resolve and anticipate science and technology issues from a Defence and scientific perspective to meet business objectives.
- Interpret and translate information between customers, Australian Defence Force personnel, senior management and scientific teams to align strategic goals and project outcomes.

**About our Team**
Collaborating with the S&T ecosystem, Platforms Division develops, integrates and experiments with innovative technologies to produce effective S&T solutions for crewed and uncrewed ADF platforms across air, land, maritime and space to achieve capability advantage.
- An international reputation for excellence in a specific, relevant field of S&T and have extensive experience, awareness and knowledge across a broad range of science applied to Defence.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including to convey complex information and concepts to a broad spectrum of audiences including military and civilian Defence personnel, other government departments and agencies, industry, academia and other
- A sound understanding of Defence client priorities and associated requirements and achieve outcomes which meet customer needs. You will also demonstrate the ability to:

- Manage increasing and highly complex workloads within an integrated workforce, proactively managing change and promoting a strong culture of scientific excellence.
- Initiate and implement changes of direction in research projects and to recognise and adapt to new initiatives and technological
- Provide strong scientific leadership and guidance to fellow professional and subordinate staff, including ensuring the quality, rigor and relevance of the research
- Promote and organise effective teamwork, motivate staff and encourage them to contribute to a high performance and collaborative
- Negotiate and influence parties with differing or conflicting interests to develop and implement solutions.
