**About this role**
We are looking for a high performing Principal Policy Officer to join the NSW Health State Preparedness and Response Unit, System Management Branch, within the Ministry of Health.

The State Preparedness and Response Unit is responsible for achieving NSW Health’s objectives relating to planning, preparedness, response and recovery to incidents and emergencies arising from a range of hazards.

The Principal Policy Officer, Strategic Projects leads a team that manages the development and evaluation of best practice policies to support the achievement of NSW Health’s objectives in relation to health incident and emergency response coordination. The role will be required to provide operational support in the response to health emergencies which will involve out-of-hours support and on call responsibilities.

Crown Clerk 11/12, salary from $134,411 - $155,445 plus Super and annual leave loading

**What you'll be doing**

As a Principal Policy Officer in the State Preparedness and Response Unit, day to day you will:

- Manage the planning and delivery of complex projects for NSW Health to address current and emerging issues in relation to incidents and emergencies arising from a range of hazards.
- Undertake rapid analysis of emerging issues, as per the NSW Health Incident Coordination Framework, to ensure NSW Health identifies and responds effectively to incidents.
- Undertake planning for major event planning meetings and mass gatherings. Horizon scanning for emerging risks, best practice research and dissemination of lessons learnt.
- Manage strategic projects to successfully deliver all key milestones and outcomes.
- Prepare high quality written advice in the form of reports, briefs, policy and discussion papers.
- Lead and participate in quantitative and qualitative research to address policy issues and inform policy development.
- Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation, and issues management to ensure project deliverables are met.

**About you**
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals with:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent professional experience (essential)
- The ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High-level knowledge and understanding of policies and legislation impacting on incident and emergency response coordination and related matters.
- Extensive skills and demonstrated experience in navigating complex government systems and a deep understanding of operational issues
- Significant knowledge and understanding of policies and legislation impacting on incident and emergency response coordination and related matters.
- The ability to work in a small dynamic team environment
