**About the business area**

The Education and Training Statistics (ETS) section is responsible for data related to education over the life cycle, from early childhood education and care through to primary and secondary school, tertiary education, work related training and adult learning.

Along with survey collections, ETS manages administrative collections such as the National Early Childhood Education and Care Collection and the National Schools Statistics Collection. ETS also manages a research fund to undertake research and analysis projects related specifically to early childhood education.

The section also carries out a wide range of data integration projects bringing meaning to data on the education and skills of people in Australia.

We have a strong focus on partnerships and providing solutions and data to support policy design, review, and research.

We are looking to fill one EL1 Statistical Team Leader role.

**About the role**

The Statistical Team Leader will lead a small, flexible team to deliver all analytical and project management requirements, including preparing documentation, regular monitoring and reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

The Statistical Team Leader will compile and analyse data and draw findings, using their judgement and real-world insights. They may determine the statistical information needed through consultation with stakeholders and lead the design, analysis and delivery of relevant, trusted, and objective statistics, solutions and insights.

Responsibilities include:

- work collaboratively with project partners across the ABS to establish and maintain productive working relationships and open communication channels
- be prepared to work in a flexible manner, including being willing to adapt to new and emerging priorities on a regular basis
- prepare and deliver briefings and presentations to a variety of internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis
- provide leadership and development to a team of staff to ensure a high performing culture
- manage delivery of statistical projects including continuous improvement of statistical production processes and high quality statistical analysis
- work with internal and external stakeholders to develop fit-for-purpose statistical and information solutions

**What we are looking for (selection criteria)**

To be suitable for this role, you should have most or all of the following skills and experience:

- demonstrated capability to deliver project management activities for complex projects within a geographically dispersed team
- demonstrated initiative and drive to identifying and managing risks, issues and opportunities within a project environment
- excellent stakeholder management and engagement, including the ability to build and sustain productive working relationships across a diverse internal network
- strong presentation and written skills, including the ability to lead meetings and workshops
- ability to manage and lead a small, dynamic team within the ABS environment
- strong conceptual, analytical and strategic thinking skills and proven ability to develop innovative solutions to issues
- knowledge of the Australian Education and/or Skills agenda is highly desirable
- experience in data integration, social policy design, program evaluation, research program design is desirable, but not essential.
