The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking to recruit multiple Statistical Analysts to temporary, full-time positions at the APS 4 classification level.

The successful applicants will work out of our office located in Perth, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) apply.

**About the Area and the Role**

We are looking fill the role of Statistical Analyst within the Wage Price Index (WPI) Section. The WPI team sits within the Prices Branch and is responsible for the collection and creation of indexes that measure the quarterly change in the price of labour in the Australian market.

The Prices Branch is responsible for producing measures of inflation in Australia, including the Consumer Price Index, Producer Price Indexes, International Trade Price Indexes, and the Wage Price Index. These important statistics are of significant interest to policy makers and economic analysts to inform monetary and broader economic policy. These indexes are also used in the production of volume measures across a range of economic statistics, including in the National Accounts and Balance of Payments.

Responsibilities of the role include;
- Working in a team to achieve high quality and timely quarterly Wage Price Index outputs, with a focus on accuracy.
- Proactively managing a workload to meet operational targets at both the micro and macro editing phase.
- Demonstrating conceptual and analytical skills, and high level of attention to detail.
- Completing analytical reports explaining key features of the data in an economic context.
- Building positive relationships with external stakeholders to validate data and ensure coherence across wage and salary statistics.

To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:

- strong attention to detail and analytical skills, including the ability to problem solve and make decisions based on analytical evidence
- good oral, written and presentation communication skills that can be used in an internal and external environment
- high level organisational skills including time management and the ability to prioritise work
- ability to work effectively in, and contribute to, a high performing team
- a demonstrated understanding of statistics (i.e. economic statistics) is desirable, but not essential.
