
Talent & People Manager

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Talent & People Manager to join our team and support all aspects of the Talent & People functions within our growing law firm. This role will be pivotal in strengthening our people practices, supporting partners and leaders, and ensuring the firm continues to attract, retain, and develop top legal and business talent.
This is a hands-on role suited to a mid-level HR professional who thrives in a dynamic, professional services environment and is looking for their next career step.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement a Talent & People strategy aligned with the firm's vision, growth, and culture.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the partnership and leadership team on all people-related matters.
- Lead recruitment and onboarding processes for both legal and business services staff.
- Oversee succession planning, career pathways, and leadership development.
- Partner with practice leaders to ensure effective capacity and resourcing management.
- Design and manage performance frameworks, appraisal processes, and capability development programs.
- Implement learning and development initiatives, including mentoring, coaching, and technical/legal training.
- Foster a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative culture.
- Provide expert guidance on employee relations matters, including dispute resolution and workplace investigations.
- Promote wellbeing, engagement, and diversity initiatives across the firm.
- Oversee remuneration and benefits frameworks, including benchmarking and annual reviews.
- Ensure compliance with Australian employment legislation, WHS obligations, and workplace policies.
- Manage HR systems, data, and reporting, ensuring accurate and confidential records.
- Monitor compliance with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements for all practising lawyers, ensuring records are up to date and reporting obligations to regulatory bodies are met.
- Oversee management of practising certificates, including tracking renewals, liaising with the Law Society, and ensuring all lawyers maintain current and compliant certification.
- Oversee monthly and fortnightly payroll processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Proven experience in a mid–senior HR leadership role, ideally within professional services or law firms.
- Strong knowledge of Australian employment law, HR best practice, and workplace compliance.
- Experience using Employment Hero preferred (or a similar HRIS/payroll system) to manage end-to-end HR and payroll processes.
- Demonstrated success in building and executing people strategies that support business growth.
- Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on HR operational delivery.
- Exceptional interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills.
- Commercial acumen and the ability to partner effectively with partners and senior stakeholders.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in HR, business, law, or a related field.
