The Legal Services Commission (Legal Services) is an independent statutory authority providing legal assistance to all South Australians. As the largest legal assistance service in SA, Legal Services offers a range of services, from legal information and advice to legal representation in the areas of family law, criminal law and civil law. Legal Services is now seeking a Director, Legal Information & Advice to join their passionate team and deliver the best possible legal outcomes for all South Australians.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this role is responsible for leading a legal and administrative team to provide high quality legal information, advice and minor assistance programs through the Telephone Advice Line (TAL), in person, via digital platforms and through community engagement and legal education. The Director, Legal Information & Advice, is part of the executive team tasked with promoting and exemplifying a client-centric approach in alignment with the core values of Legal Services.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader in people and change management and will be responsible for leading services that deliver legal information and advice to assist vulnerable individuals facing disadvantage in effectively engaging with the justice system to address their legal issues. In this pivotal role, the Director, Legal Information & Advice, will direct Team Leaders and the staff of Legal Services' Legal Information and Advice Division to deliver consistent, high quality and efficient legal information to clients in a manner consistent with the Division's objectives.

A key aspect of this role is to develop and maintain effective systems and processes to promote high quality legal information and advice work. The Director, Legal Information & Advice will also be accountable for implementing a program of professional development and wellbeing in support of legal practitioners in the Division and foster a culture of trust, support and commitment to continuous improvement.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

The successful candidate must be admitted or eligible for admission as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of SA, be included on the roll of practitioners for the High Court of Australia and hold an unrestricted Category C Practicing Certificate or be eligible to apply for one. To be considered for this role, you must have at least 11 years' post-admission experience in a relevant legal field. Legal Services is seeking a collaborative and strategic leader with outstanding written and verbal communication skills, who can effectively lead and motivate teams through change and continuous improvement, while building and maintaining productive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Candidates possessing experience with business process improvement, data and performance metrics analysis to drive growth and improvement of service delivery are highly desirable for this role.
