Overview

Property Underwriter, QLD – Chubb


The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the achievement of department, branch and corporate goals relative to profit, growth, service producer and client relations.


Responsibilities
  • Book Management
    • Design and implementation of effective portfolio analysis, profit and retention strategies
    • Collaboration with NUC and other internal customers regarding book management strategy and maintenance of "one voice" with brokers; provide feedback and possible solutions to NUC.
    • Monitoring/reporting on status of open claims for assigned accounts (or in area of speciality) and make recommendations
    • Thorough and considered preparation for account reviews with management, demonstrating knowledge of risk, industry, competitive environment and Chubb's products and capabilities


  • Underwriting Quality & Compliance
    • Adhere to appropriate underwriting, compliance and file documentation standards and workflows to support the achievement of Branch/SBU revenue and profit goals.
    • Within scope of delegated authority, evaluate and accept or decline new lines, renewals and endorsements.
    • Evaluate and make recommendation for acceptance or declination on risks which exceed authority.
    • Recommend account trade off decisions.
    • As appropriate, provide input to Manager on profit analysis, premium planning, market and environment analysis


  • Sales and Marketing
    • Achieve individual producer targets as specified in goals/business plan
    • Develop and/or implement an effective business development strategy to prospect for new business across SBU/product lines and broker segments. This includes collaborating with key internal stakeholders to maximise sales and marketing outcomes
    • Actively and effectively manage sales pipeline to identify and develop new business prospects


  • Broker and Key Account Management
    • Manage broker and key account relationships for assigned territory through proactive communication, visitation and collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders to retain and grow the business.
    • Visit assigned producers to discuss risks, communicate Chubb's business appetites, and to produce new business
    • Monitor assigned producers performance by analysing quality, volume and mix of business by producer. Determine degree on conformity to department underwriting and marketing goals; rectifies deviations; communicate suggestion and results to manager.
    • Plan and execute a regular and ongoing quality underwriting travel program to promote understanding of and support for underwriting and marketing goals. Travel includes the ongoing solicitation of new business and presentations to prospective producers.
    • Responsible, appropriate and strategic management of resources and expenses associated with the above activities

    • Champion risk culture values and being a strong advocate for good customer outcomes in all business activities. Promote continuous improvement to Chubb's products and services having regard to product assessments, IT solution and business efficiencies.
    • Be aware of and appropriately mange conduct risk within your area
    • Understand your role and take ownership of risks and controls as a first line risk owner
    • Effectively manage third party arrangements you/your function is responsible for, ensuring effective oversight and monitoring is in place and steps are taken promptly where issues are identified.
    • Appropriate action taken for employee conduct that is outside of that contemplated in the risk culture goal and Code of Conduct
    • Promptly report incidents and ensure functional area does the same. Handle any complaints fairly and promptly in accordance with Chubb policy
    • Participate in quarterly compliance attestation process and provision of accurate information for Board and Committee reporting
    • Compliance with Code of Conduct, internal policies, regulations




Qualifications
  • Skills & Experience Required:
    • Demonstrable ability to proactively identify and implement intelligent solutions to unique underwriting situations.
    • Appropriate levels of subject matter expertise in relation to: pricing techniques, alternative risk transfer and the development of reserves by individual case and by book of business.
    • Working knowledge of the key accounts in the Branch.
    • Understanding the underwriting appetites of the other departments and associated relationships with interdepartmental accounts.
    • Judgement, experience and confidence to make appropriate recommendations for tailoring coverage and manuscripting policies.
    • Familiarity with the products / services of key competitors.
    • Demonstrable capacity and efficacy in utilising negotiation strategies to achieve constructive business outcomes
    • Demonstrated ability to work well with people and influence decisions.
