Senior Legal Counsel - Energy Solutions and Delivery role at APA Group. The opportunity: APA's purpose is to secure Australia's energy future. We're Australia's energy infrastructure partner, working with customers and communities. The Senior Legal Counsel - Energy Solutions and Delivery will join the APA Legal, Governance & Regulatory team in Brisbane (preferred) but Sydney, Melbourne or Perth may be considered, on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Group Counsel Energy Solutions & Delivery, the main objective is to partner with APA's business to provide pragmatic and strategic legal advice and services enabling delivery of Major Projects within APA's risk appetite.
Key Responsibilities- Delivery of effective, timely, commercial and pragmatic legal advice related to Energy Projects on a whole of project basis and general commercial advisory and dispute resolution, including documents for greenfield or brownfield major energy projects such as gas, electricity, hydrogen etc
- Joint venture and bidding agreements and documentation for early-stage development projects such as HOAs, MOUs, LOIs and term sheets
- General and ancillary commercial contracts for all business units, such as recoverable works agreements
- High level regulatory matters including gas inquiries and ring-fencing issues
- Management of legal risk in relation to major projects and commercial areas across the APA business
- Assist the Group Counsel in design, implementation and governance of standards and processes to drive efficiency in the use of legal services including self-service tools and guidance materials
- Admitted to practice as a Legal Practitioner in Australia with current practising certificate
- Strong hands-on experience advising on major projects across all project documents, including regulatory exposure, with experience in construction law and contracts
- Excellent contract interpretation, drafting and dispute resolution experience
- Advanced knowledge of major projects from law firm training, preferably with in-house experience, with subject matter expertise
- Technical skills to drive strategy and act as trusted advisor to the business unsupervised and comfortable with ambiguity and change
- Strong communication and influencing skills and ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders
