What's the role?

Take strategic leadership within Australia's premier Editorial AI Innovation team. Building on our proven success in developing transformative newsroom tools, you'll drive the next phase of product evolution, accelerating deployment, scaling adoption, and cementing our position as the industry standard. This role demands a product leader who excels at transforming innovation into practical, newsroom-ready solutions.

Be the driving force that turns AI innovation into reality. As the Product Manager for our BAU AI Stream, you'll take cutting-edge prototypes and make them robust, scalable, and essential for our editorial teams. Working closely with tech, QA, and editorial leaders, you'll ensure our AI tools deliver measurable impacts every day.

This role can be worked from any of our head offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Queensland, or Adelaide

What You'll Do

  • Lead the end-to-end deployment of signed-off AI prototypes into production.
  • Coordinate across development, QA, infrastructure, and editorial teams for smooth, on-time releases.
  • Own the roadmap for maintaining, enhancing, and scaling live AI tools.
  • Test tools against emerging AI models to identify opportunities for improved quality, speed, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Gather and analyse user feedback to prioritise fixes, refinements, and new features.
  • Work with Prompt Engineers and QA to refine datasets for ongoing model optimisation.
  • Ensure maximum uptime and performance of our AI applications.
  • Act as the go-to contact for any production tool issues, bugs, or outages.
  • Define success metrics and use performance analytics to drive continuous improvement.

Who are you?
  • Attention to detail is your superpower.
  • You are the operational champion of our AI strategy. While our innovation stream discovers what's possible, you will make it real, reliable, and indispensable.
  • You will operate at a newsroom pace, which is VERY different to conventional development teams that work in sprint cycles.
  • Technically-minded product manager who thrives on execution and operational excellence in a fast-paced environment with many concurrent projects.
  • A strong, practical understanding of the modern AI/ML landscape, especially Large Language Models (LLMs). You don't need to be a data scientist, but you must understand APIs, model versions, and the core concepts of how these technologies work.
  • Experience using analytics and user feedback to make informed product decisions.
  • Outstanding ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both technical teams (engineers, data scientists) and non-technical stakeholders (journalists, editors).
