Data Governance Lead

We're looking for a driven and forward-thinking Data Governance Lead to establish and scale a fit-for-purpose data governance function from the ground up. Based in Sydney, you'll be joining a growing team within a high-performing, ASX-listed business where data is at the heart of decision-making and digital transformation.

This is a rare opportunity to define the data governance strategy, influence data culture across the organisation, and shape how data is managed, protected, and leveraged for business value.

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement a company-wide data governance framework aligned with strategic goals and regulatory obligations.
  • Establish roles, responsibilities, and ownership models across data domains (e.g. data stewards, custodians, owners).
  • Develop and embed policies, standards, and data controls, including for quality, classification, access, and lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with teams across IT, risk, finance, and business units to promote data accountability and literacy.
  • Work with technology partners to implement or optimise governance tooling (e.g. data catalogues, lineage, metadata management).
  • Define and track governance KPIs and maturity levels, reporting regularly to senior leadership.
  • Act as the key governance lead on initiatives relating to privacy, compliance, AI readiness, and data quality.
What You'll Bring
  • Proven experience in data governance, data management, or data quality leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK or CDMC.
  • Hands-on experience developing data policies, ownership models, and controls in a regulated environment.
  • Financial services experience highly regarded, especially in ASX-listed or APRA-regulated organisations.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Snowflake, Microsoft Purview, Collibra, or similar platforms is highly regarded.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • A strategic mindset, balanced with the ability to deliver quick wins and scale iteratively.
