Senior Estimator, Civil

Remuneration:
Negotiable
Guideline: $180K to $200K + Super + Vehicle (Prado 4WD) + Bonus

About the Role:
This is a pivotal position within a thriving contractor company, supporting their continued growth and success. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing comprehensive, detailed, and competitive tenders. Reporting to the Estimating Manager and working closely with the Director, you will collaborate with an experienced support team to target civil projects throughout Southeast Queensland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct first-principles estimating to meet high-quality standards and deadlines
  • Engage with subcontractors and suppliers for tender negotiations and coordination
  • Manage the bid process, ensuring tenders are presented effectively
  • Collaborate with team members, subcontractors, and suppliers to identify opportunities for added value
  • Provide insights and advice on practical construction methods, including project methodologies and scheduling
  • Assess risks and opportunities to refine and improve estimates
  • Participate in pre- and post-tender negotiations to secure favorable outcomes
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to overcome challenges and improve processes
  • Build and maintain relationships within the industry to stay updated on market trends, pricing, and new entrants

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related field (desirable)
  • At least 5 years of civil estimating experience, particularly in Southeast Queensland
  • Expertise in first-principles estimating, especially for earthworks
  • Proficiency in using Pronamics Expert Estimation software
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions to outperform competitors, rather than just competing on cost
  • Strong team player committed to achieving both corporate and client goals
  • Advanced skills in planning, reporting, and analysis
  • Expertise in relationship management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving, with the ability to think creatively

Example Projects

  • Civil works including cut-to-fill, stormwater, and detailed earthworks valued at $10M
  • External civil works and car parks (TMR specifications), approx $9M. Involving key station features and a major increase in parking capacity
