Salary range: $241,882 - $268,770 inc super

We are delighted to be partnering with VMIA to support the recruitment of a critical leadership role in its newly established Government Sector Practice. As Victoria's insurer and risk advisor, VMIA partners with over 4,800 public clients, from Departments, Agencies and community organisations. Its refreshed operating model places clients at the centre, and the new Government Sector Practice reflects a clear intention: to better understand, partner with, and deliver value to government clients to reduce the cost of risk for clients and the State as a whole.

The Head of Government Sector Practice will lead a team of 11 and work closely with senior leaders across VMIA and the public sector. This role brings together strategy, client relationships, pricing, risk advisory, and portfolio leadership into one influential position. It's a unique opportunity to shape how the State thinks about and manages insurable risk in an increasingly dynamic environment.

You'll be a visible and trusted partner to government leaders, translating complexity into clarity and supporting a public sector that is better prepared, protected, and connected.

You will bring:

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in government, insurance, or risk
  • Strategic fluency across portfolio performance, risk transfer, and value delivery
  • Strong track record of working with or within the Victorian public sector
  • Experience leading teams in multi-stakeholder, purpose-driven environments
  • Proven success in delivering capability uplift or transformation in product or service delivery
  • Ability to interpret emerging risks and guide sector-specific product and advisory initiatives
  • A leadership style that builds trust, drives alignment, and thrives in complexity
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial or a related field
  • Demonstrated exposure to product innovation and/or digital solutions
  • Proven success in delivering capability uplift or transformation in product or service delivery
  • You must have permanent and unrestricted rights to work in Australia (citizenship or permanent residency
