Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Town Planner is accountable for the planning portfolio's strategic and statutory land functions, reviewing the planning scheme, structure plan, local planning strategy and scheme amendments within the Shire of Exmouth to achieve sustainable development through economic growth, environmental and social development.
In this role, you will administer the Council's strategic and statutory use planning functions in accordance with the Planning and Development Act 2005, Land Administration Act 1997 and Local Government Act 1995. You will assess and process development and subdivision applications in accordance with the Planning and Development Act 2005, the local planning framework and relevant legislation, under delegate authority. You will assist and provide advice to the Council on land development projects, including identification, administration and release of land to meet future growth and development requirements, and support service delivery in Planning, Land Use, Development and Crown Land Administration programs to achieve sustainable outcomes for the community.
ResponsibilitiesThe Town Planner will:
- Assess and process development and subdivision applications in line with applicable legislation and local planning framework.
- Provide advice to the Council on land development projects and land release to support growth.
- Support and deliver planning, land use, development and Crown Land administration programs to achieve sustainable community outcomes.
- Contribute to the review and update of planning schemes, structure plans, local planning strategies and scheme amendments.
- Collaborate with government authorities, private stakeholders and the community to foster positive working relationships.
You will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent, and/or relevant planning experience at a similar level (minimum 2 years).
- Sound knowledge of and ability to interpret legislation, local laws, regulations and acts.
This position is classified as a Level 8 under the Shire of Exmouth Enterprise Agreement 2017, with the following remuneration and benefits:
- Base salary of $84,888 per annum
- Housing allowance of $15,600 per annum or the option of shared single housing
- Location allowance of $1,955 per annum
- Up to 22% superannuation (includes co-contribution by you)
- Regular RDOs and 5 weeks annual leave per annum
- Eligibility for long service leave after 7 years of service (conditions apply), uniform allowance, employee assistance program and other wellbeing services.
