About the role
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Peer Practitioner to join Mind's Outreach Psychosocial Services South Australia. This permanent, full-time role in the Adelaide Metropolitan area offers the opportunity to provide 1:1, recovery-oriented support to clients in their homes and the community.
Using your lived/living experience of mental health challenges, you will help people achieve their wellbeing goals, build daily living skills, strengthen social connections, and increase independence. This role champions the voice of lived experience, co-designed goal planning, and recovery-oriented, trauma-informed practice. As this role involves travel, a fleet car will be provided.
About the Service
Mind's Outreach Psychosocial Services South Australia provides person-centred support to help individuals improve wellbeing, build independence, and achieve their personal goals. The service offers a two-tiered approach:
- Intensive Crisis Support (Tier 1): Short-term, flexible support to reduce distress, improve safety, and connect clients with longer-term community services.
- Non-Acute Psychosocial Support (Tier 2): Moderate-intensity support over several months to enhance recovery, develop daily living skills, maintain housing, strengthen relationships, build social connections, and support transition to NDIS services.
Key responsibilities
- Use your lived/living experience of mental ill health and recovery to build connection, offer hope, and support others on their recovery journey.
- Deliver high-quality services to respond to the unique needs of people, offering a flexible and person-centred approach.
- Provide resources and support to help people foster positive relationships with those important to them.
- Participate in regular training, peer co-reflection, and professional development to strengthen your practice.
- Support people to navigate services and connect with community supports that help them build confidence, independence, and meaningful participation in daily life.
- Actively contribute to co-design and service improvement, championing the voice and leadership of people with lived experience.
What you'll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by Mind.
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, or Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, is desirable but not required.
- Previous experience in using lived experience and expertise in a dedicated Peer role strongly desirable
- Experience, expertise and/or desire to work directly with people with mental health issues, as well as their families and carers.
- Experience or ability to acquire skills in understanding needs and working collaboratively to plan wellbeing supports using evidence informed approaches and tools.
