Overview

Position Information

Bankstown Public School is a large multicultural school of 740 students and is located within the CBD of Bankstown. 98% of students are from non–English speaking backgrounds and there are 9 Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students. There are currently 50 language backgrounds with 33% speaking Arabic, 17% speaking Vietnamese and 15% speaking Urdu. The staff are a highly committed and diverse group of experienced and early career teachers. There are 30 mainstream classes and a Support Unit consisting of 2 IO/AU classes, an AU class and an IM class. The school has a Community Hub coordinator who works with the community to build parent capacity to support student learning. Bankstown Public School has strong student welfare programs and a Playtime program for preschool aged students and their parents, and continues to foster community participation and support.

Specific Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with additional learning needs including autism and intellectual disabilities, with proven abilities to implement strategies to meet their communication, sensory, social and behavioural needs.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute positively to whole school culture and work collaboratively to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, community and external agencies.
  • Ability to differentiate the curriculum and implement individualised learning programs that are culturally responsive, inclusive and maximise student success.
  • Evidence of outstanding, flexible classroom management skills that focus on improving student engagement, creating a positive learning environment and promoting inclusive practices in all school settings.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
