An exciting opportunity is available for committed and enthusiastic Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists to join the expanding Child Youth and Family Mental Health (CYF-MH) stream in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD). These roles are available in the Nepean Adolescent Mental Health Unit (NAMHU). NAMHU is the newest statewide adolescent mental health unit which is currently under construction as part of the NSW Government's $700 million Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program. The 10-bed unit is co-located with the Nepean Mental Health Centre at Nepean Hospital.
Applicants who expect to be eligible for Fellowship within 6 months and who have no more than one College-administered assessment to complete may be considered; if successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
The unit has been co-designed from inception by young people, carers and health staff. The unit will provide essential mental health care to young people aged between 12 and 17 years old, underpinned by a strong therapeutic approach, the expertise of a skilled interdisciplinary workforce including lived experience and Aboriginal professionals and partnership with the Department of Education. Seamless integration between community and the inpatient unit setting will be an important principle of care.
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists in these roles will provide medical leadership within the interdisciplinary teams. They will support the delivery of mental health assessments and management for the young people, empower families and care networks, participate in key clinical decisions, supervise and work with registrars and assist medical student education. The roles provide the opportunity to be part of collaborative efforts to develop, deliver and evaluate innovative care for young people and their care networks.
