The Backend Software Developer will play a pivotal role in our development team, focusing on building robust, scalable, and secure backend systems to support our applications and client projects. You will work closely with front-end developers, project managers, and the customer success team to deliver high-quality solutions. This role requires a strong understanding of backend technologies, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering reliable and efficient software systems.

You are an experienced Laravel developer and have built back-end platforms (specifically API's) before. You will be someone who is keen and equipped to work in a vibrant start-up team, understand how technology works with business, plus have the ability to communicate coherently with our team, creatives, designers and our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code using PHP and Laravel programming languages and frameworks.
  • Implement and manage relational database solutions and query optimisation
  • Optimise system performance and reliability by addressing bottlenecks and ensuring scalability.
  • Integrate third-party services and APIs as required by project needs.
  • Experience with queue and job management, schedulers, error handling, and debugging
  • Knowledge of deployment and basic server management

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with frontend developers to ensure seamless integration between frontend and backend systems.
  • Collaborate with project management and customer success teams to ensure backend systems align with user needs and business objectives.

Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Write and perform thorough testing to identify and resolve bugs.
  • Assist in the implementation of automated testing.
  • Experience with error handling and debugging techniques

Process Improvement:

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and workflows.
  • Advocate for and implement modern development practices, such as CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Proven experience as a backend developer with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
  • Proficiency in backend programming languages and frameworks (e.g., MySQL, PHP and Laravel.).
  • Strong understanding of database management systems and query optimisation.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)
  • Experience with version control systems, such as Git.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architecture.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
