About The Role

The department is looking for a motivated and capable APS4-5 Graduate Security Data Analyst to join a high-performing team supporting national-level security operations. This is an exciting entry-level opportunity for a recent graduate eager to apply their analytical skills and contribute to meaningful, data-driven outcomes. You will be working closely with senior staff and internal stakeholders, analysing complex datasets, and contributing to improved assessment and reporting capabilities. This role is ideal for someone passionate about security, technology, and using data to solve real-world problems.

Level/Classification: APS4-5
Location: Canberra ACT
Contract Duration: 12 Months + 1 x 12 Months
Requirements:

  • MUST have an NV2 clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • Selection Criteria Response
Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyse open-source and sensitive data feeds to identify patterns, trends, and anticipate future threats
  • Assist with developing, managing, and enhancing reporting processes and outputs
  • Collaborate with various internal stakeholders to improve assessment and analytical procedures
  • Support senior staff with data preparation, visualisation, and presentation of insights
  • Participate in data governance and process improvement initiatives
  • Draft and present materials to drive better analytic capabilities
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Project Officer
Experience and Skills Required:
Mandatory:
  • Recent graduate in Information Technology, Security Studies, Business, Commerce, or a related field
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Confident communicator (written and verbal) with a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to contribute to discussions and solution development for data and system issues
  • Proven ability to convert data into clear, actionable insights for senior decision-makers
  • Able to support team and organisational objectives
Desirable:
  • Exposure to tools and systems such as SQL, Power BI, or Python
  • Understanding of analytical or programming software (e.g., Splunk, Ruby)
  • Familiarity with MS Visio, IP networks, or HyperTerminal
  • Experience working within or alongside federal government environment
  • This is a full-time, office-based role with occasional flexibility. Part-time options may be considered for the right candidate. The role requires access to secure systems available only onsite.
