Our client, a leading organisation at the forefront of AI innovation, is seeking an experienced AI Safety Engineer to join their team on a 6-month daily rate contract. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to pioneering AI projects while ensuring safe and responsible deployment of advanced technologies.

The Role Reporting into senior technology leadership, you will play a key role in establishing and embedding a dedicated AI Safety function. You'll be responsible for developing frameworks, tools, and processes to ensure systems align with human values, comply with safety standards, and operate securely in complex environments.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Developing safety protocols, monitoring tools, and risk-mitigation strategies.
• Conducting risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities in AI systems.
• Designing and integrating guardrails and validation mechanisms to ensure reliable outputs.
• Supporting robustness testing, bias detection, and performance monitoring.
• Contributing to frameworks that improve accuracy and reduce system drift.
• Investigating safety incidents, analysing root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
• Staying across emerging AI safety standards, regulations, and research.
• Training teams on AI safety principles and contributing to governance frameworks.
• Applying best-practice approaches to ensure safe and responsible AI operations.
  
  

About You We are looking for someone who can combine strong technical expertise with a passion for safe and responsible AI adoption. To succeed in this role, you will bring:

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 3-5 years' commercial experience in machine learning, deep learning, and AI development.
• Solid understanding of AI safety principles including risk assessment and hazard identification.
• Hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), including fine-tuning and evaluation.
• Familiarity with retrieval-based systems, reinforcement learning safety, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven ability to deliver in complex environments.
• Experience in regulated industries (such as financial services) is highly regarded.
• Must be an Australian resident to be considered.
