Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Advisor in the Darwin Office. Knowmore Legal Service is seeking Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Advisors to work with mob to help them navigate the legal system and options.
We are looking for people to work with First Nations survivors to help them navigate legal pathways and access services, in a culturally safe and respectful manner. This is a full-time role based in Darwin with some travel requirements.
Responsibilities- Provide direct support to First Nations survivors as they navigate the legal pathways to redress.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with Social Workers, Lawyers and Financial Counsellors to support survivors through the process.
- Participate in projects and community education activities to achieve systemic reforms for the benefit of First Nations people.
- A competitive salary commensurate with the not-for-profit sector, with salary packaging to achieve a tax-effective total package.
- Five weeks annual leave for Darwin staff; shutdown between Christmas and New Year without deduction from leave.
- 12.5% superannuation (0.5% above the Superannuation Guarantee Charge).
- Annual bonuses: 4% of base salary after 1 year; 8% per year thereafter.
- Training and development opportunities and an Employee Assistance Program.
We provide free legal information, advice, representation and referrals, financial counselling and support for survivors of child sexual abuse through the National Redress Scheme and the Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme. We aim to provide a culturally safe service, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Advisors to assist First Nations survivors to receive legal assistance, in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.
About the RoleThe role has three purposes:
- To provide direct support to First Nations survivors as they navigate the legal pathways to redress;
- To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to help survivors through the process;
- To participate in projects and community education activities to achieve systemic reforms for First Nations people.
- This is an identified position. To be appointed, the individual must be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who identifies and is recognised as such within their community.
- Current driver's license is highly desired, with the ability and willingness to travel, including to remote communities for up to a week at a time.
- A National Police Records Check and a Working with Children Check will be completed.
- There are statutory and policy-based expectations related to equal opportunity and genuine occupational requirements for this role in various jurisdictions.
