Your role

The Superintendent – Protective Security provides expert guidance on intelligence and risk issues affecting courts. Build strong partnerships with law enforcement and court stakeholders and support Regional Commanders on high-risk or sensitive security matters to ensure effective risk management and operational coordination. You will work to provide protective security advice and support to the operations of a defined region, as well as undertake specialist functions where required.

  • Provide operational support and protective security advice across courts and Court Services units.
  • Lead security operations in courts when required.
  • Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments, audits, and report findings.
  • Investigate critical security incidents and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and review security policies, procedures, and operational plans for high-security matters.
  • Deliver briefings, training, and presentations to court staff.
  • Stay up to date with current physical security and risk management practices.
  • Liaise with Judicial Officers and senior stakeholders across law enforcement and partner agencies.
What We're Looking For
  • Security Operations Leadership: Direct and support protective security measures across courts, including managing high-risk situations and critical incidents.
  • Risk Assessment & Policy Development: Conduct security audits and assessments and develop or review policies and procedures to enhance court safety.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with law enforcement, judicial officers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Communication: Respond effectively to changing priorities in a dynamic environment, and deliver briefings, training, and clear guidance to court staff.
Essential Requirements
  • Successful completion of the Sheriff's Officer Recruit Training Program.
  • Travel to court locations across NSW is a requirement of the position.
  • Willingness to obtain and complete a Diploma of Government Security or Diploma of Security and Risk Management upon commencement.
  • Certificate III in Government to be completed within 12 months of commencement.
  • Successful completion of tactical re-certification, and other prescribed training programs mandated in line with Clause 9 of the Crown Employees (Sheriff's Officer) Award 2024 as required.
  • Willingness to obtain and complete a Diploma of Leadership and Management or equivalent upon commencement.
  • Current NSW Driver's Licence, with a provisional P2 licence as a minimum upon entry to service.
  • Current First Aid certificate.
  • Meet the required health, physical and psychological requirements in accordance with agency standards.

The role is a sworn Sheriff's Officer for the purposes of the Sheriff Act 2005. The role will be required to perform the duties of a Sheriff's Officer as necessary, such as the execution of court orders, and court security duties.

This role is classified as a commissioned officer under s14 of the Sheriff Act 2005. This role will be required to work during periods of industrial action to ensure essential court security, jury administration and civil enforcement services are available.

Appointments are subject to reference checks. Some roles may also require the following checks/ clearances:

  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
