Perth, Western Australia Australian Wildlife Conservancy Full time

Introduction:

About AWC:

Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) is a global leader in conservation, providing hope for Australia's wildlife with a science-informed, land management partnership approach which delivers high impact results. We protect endangered wildlife in iconic regions such as the Kimberley, Cape York, the Top End and Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre.

AWC's mission - to deliver effective conservation for all native animal species and their habitats - is achieved by:

  • Operations - delivering effective large-scale land management including fire management, feral animal control, weed control and infrastructure management.
  • Science - delivering the largest national biological survey program with a focus on measuring the population of indicator species and the extent of threatening processes as well as conducting research on key issues such as feral cat control.
  • Fundraising - mobilising finance (primarily, tax deductible donations) from the general public and philanthropists including through effective communication of field updates from around the AWC estate.
About the role:

The South-west (SW) Region consists of 16 permanent staff, several short contracts and interns plus research students, as well as a range of casual staff and volunteers. Day-to-day operations are overseen by the individual Sanctuary Managers and science programs by the Wildlife Ecologist. The two staff streams (Operations and Science) work together in an integrated manner to design, implement and measure the effectiveness of land management strategies.

The Administration Assistant reports directly to the South-west Administration and Operations Support Officer, and will primarily support the regional administration required for delivery of visitation program in the SW. The Administration Assistant will facilitate public visitor bookings at our busy Paruna Sanctuary in Gidgegannup, and Mount Gibson Sanctuary near Wubin by updating and maintaining relevant Newbook (Online booking portal) processes and background information such as conditions of entry and directions. Additionally, although Newbook is an online portal, the role will be critical in maintaining public facing communication.

Paruna received over 10,500 visitors from May to October in 2024 for day walks, and Mount Gibson is a popular bush camping destination. Visitors can book online via Newbook and often call for information and guidance. From time-to-time, the Administration Assistant may also assist with regional administrative tasks to support the South West region including Karakamia, Paruna, Mt Gibson, and Faure Island.

Critical competencies:
  • Professional and friendly demeanor with strong personal communication skills including face-to-face, phone, and email interactions.
  • Proficiency in various software including MS Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook and general computer skills. Experience using NewBook (booking system) is desirable but not required. Training will be provided.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently or as part of a small team as required.
  • An organised approach to work tasks and high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Proficiency in working with basic financial management processes. Experience using Tech1 is desirable but not required. Training will be provided where required.
  • A background or interest in nature conservation and/or outdoor recreation is highly desirable.
Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in an administrative, customer service role is preferred.
  • Formal qualifications in a relevant discipline would be advantageous (i.e. Certificate III Tourism, and/or Cert III Business Administration), but is less important than strong, practical experience in delivering results.
Licenses, Certificates and/or Training:
  • Police clearance certificate.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a temporary part-time role (22.8hrs per week) based out of the AWC Karakamia office (Chidlow) or AWC's Perth office (Subiaco). WFH arrangements can also be considered.
