Position Information

Yass High School is an inclusive, comprehensive and growing school close to Canberra with an enrolment of 565 with 11% Aboriginal students. The school benefits from strong community relationships and is committed to a personalised success pathway for every student.

We have a Trade Centre for vocational courses such as Metals, Timber and Hospitality which is a popular career direction for many students. Our Agriculture farm enables students to learn the skills relating to animal management and horticulture, both very appropriate to our rural setting. Our growing Support Unit includes three Learning Hub classes and a SLC (Supported Learning Centre). Yass High School also has a stage 5 pathways programs to support students to transition to the workforce.

Specific Selection Criteria
  • 1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Mild Intellectual Disability.
  • 2. Demonstrated ability to create a positive learning environment through the implementation of effective classroom management and student wellbeing initiatives.
  • 3. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work collaboratively, proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, school learning support officers, support agencies and the wider community.
  • 4. Demonstrated ability to design and teach quality, differentiated educational programs and develop Personalised Learning Support Plans and Behaviour Management Plans for students with a wide range of individual learning needs, while providing a culture of high expectations for all students in a multistage setting.
Conditions
  • An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
  • A Relocation Support Payment of $5,000 up to $8,000 will be available for eligible applicants.
  • Successful applicants may be entitled to a Recruitment Bonus of $20,000 (Conditions Apply). The Recruitment Bonus will be paid on a pro rata basis for permanent part-time teachers and executive staff. The maximum recruitment bonus available for a position is $20,000, including any job share arrangements

If the recommended applicant is seeking permanent part time employment (FTE from 0.1 to 0.9 inclusive), they will be offered an appointment at their desired FTE.
