Lead Mechanical Piping Designer

The Opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Lead Mechanical / Piping Designer to join our Brisbane team. This newly created position will see you responsible for leading and supporting the mechanical / piping design team with the delivery of innovative practical solutions, across client projects of varying complexities.

Responsibilities:

1. Working closely with our multi-discipline Design Team Leader, you will be involved in the mechanical / piping project inputs and provide technical guidance and leadership supporting the growth and development of the technical / piping design team.
2. Manage the effective collaboration, delegation and preparation of workload across the mechanical / piping design teams in our three design and engineering office locations.
3. Leading and undertaking piping, mechanical and materials handling design tasks (Brownfield and Greenfield) from concept through to commissioning, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
4. Effectively communicate and coordinate with stakeholders (designers, project managers, engineers & clients), ensuring the timely delivery of design milestones, proactively addressing any potential issues or delays.
5. Materials handling systems design; wet and dry process plants, conveyors, belt feeders, screens, stackers, reclaimers.
6. Develop design concepts and create 3D models, visualisations and animations, utilising 12D modelling and AutoCAD to design mechanical / piping layouts.
7. Review and provide feedback on vendor drawings and interdisciplinary design data.
8. Assisting with construction, commissioning and inspections, including occasional site-based work as required.
9. Continuous improvement, implementation and maintenance of procedures and policies pertaining to mechanical design practices.

What you can bring to the team:

1. Advanced Diploma of Engineering or equivalent.
2. Extensive design experience in the mining / minerals processing / industrial sectors.
3. Experience working in a multidisciplinary consulting environment working on Brownfield and Greenfield projects.
4. Competency in recognised CAD systems. We use AutoCAD, Advance Steel, Plant 3D, Navisworks. Occasionally we will use Civil 3D and Bentley.
5. Experience and enthusiasm to lead and build a team, including effective delegation of workload and support to less experienced team members.
6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye for detail and a strong focus on the production of quality outputs.
7. Understanding of statutory and industry regulations and HSE practices.
8. Experience collaborating with clients and multi-discipline teams across multiple locations.
