Two Appointments | ASO7 Classification | Biosecurity Division

Our client, the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) plays a pivotal role in driving South Australia7;s economic prosperity by supporting and advancing our globally recognised agriculture, food and wine sectors. With a dedicated team of professionals working across metropolitan and regional areas, PIRSA partners with industry, communities and government to foster growth, innovation and resilience in primary industries.

Forming part of the recently created Biosecurity Act Implementation Team responsible for developing the administrative and regulatory requirements to enable the commencement of the Biosecurity Act 2025, the opportunity has emerged for the appointment of two Principal Policy and Project Officers to lead policy development and shape legislation through the provision of expert advice, stakeholder engagement, consultation and strategic analysis, while also contributing to wider departmental initiatives.

Interest is sought from individuals with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to critically assess complex biosecurity systems and legislation to identify gaps, inconsistencies and opportunities for reform, and interpret trends, risks and emerging issues. High-level verbal intelligence will be essential in ensuring proficiency in distilling complex policy and legislative concepts into clear, compelling advice and documentation including discussion papers, policy positions and draft regulations, as well as in engaging and consulting key stakeholder groups across government and broader industry.

Translating technical insights into actionable policy, you will demonstrate a deep understanding of government processes and biosecurity frameworks, along with strong leadership capabilities in providing oversight to Program Delivery Officers.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of biosecurity in South Australia, working at the intersection of policy, legislation and industry to safeguard the future of our primary industries.
