Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia Talent Partner Australia Full time
Overview

Technical Director, Planning and Approvals (NSW) with base pay range A$200,000.00 to A$240,000.00 per year, plus package and bonus. This role is in New South Wales, based in either Newcastle or Sydney. Are you a seasoned planning and approvals specialist with a passion for major projects and a knack for leadership? We are recruiting on behalf of a highly respected consultancy that is seeking a Technical Director to join their team in NSW. This is a rare opportunity to step into a leadership position in a dynamic consultancy, focused on shaping the future of renewables, infrastructure, and transport in NSW.

The Role

As the Technical Director, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and mentoring a high-performing team of 10 planning and approvals specialists.
  • Securing environmental approvals for major-scale projects.
  • Driving the growth of the team and developing key client relationships.
  • Providing expert advice on New South Wales planning legislation and major projects, including State Significant Developments.
What We\'re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Substantial experience in planning and approvals, with a deep understanding of NSW planning legislation.
  • Proven experience in impact assessment and managing major projects.
  • A Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner (REAP) accreditation is a must-have qualification.
  • A passion for working on complex, major-scale projects and a desire to lead and mentor a team.

This role is for someone who thrives on a challenge and wants to make a tangible impact. The position would suit a leader who enjoys the strategic side of planning and approvals but prefers an environmental-first rather than an engineering-led company.
