Sustainability and Social Impact Manager - Containers for Change

We are Western Australia Return Recycle Renew, (WARRRL). We are the team that has been leading the recycling revolution that is Containers for Change. We have developed and supported a strong, diverse network of 300 refund points, providing employment opportunities through commercial, social enterprise and not for profit organisations. In just over 5 years, we have saved over 4.4 billion containers from landfill. Our success is echoed by the container recovery rate increasing from 33% to 65% in that time. The Opportunity

Want to be able to influence the way our organisation contributes to a more sustainable future? We are currently seeking an experienced and purpose-driven leader to oversee our organisation's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda. Reporting to the Chief Business Officer, this critical role will ensure the effective development, implementation, measurement, and reporting of our Environment and Sustainability Strategy, Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), Aboriginal Engagement Plan, and Social Impact Framework.

In this newly created position, you will play a pivotal role in delivering measurable outcomes that reflect our organisational vision, obligations, and commitment to positive impact.

Some key responsibilities include:


• Lead the design and execution of ESG strategies and plans that deliver real environmental sustainability, social impact, reconciliation, and Aboriginal engagement outcomes.


• Ensure functional budgets and forecasts are achieved while establishing clear metrics to drive accountability and continuous improvement.


• Build strong relationships with government, sector leaders, Aboriginal communities, and other key stakeholders to achieve shared goals.


• Oversee ESG-related initiatives, projects, and reporting to ensure transparency, accountability, and ongoing alignment with organisational objectives.


• Deliver accurate, timely, and outcome-focused reports and communications to internal and external stakeholders

This is a full-time opportunity, based in Subiaco.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated experience in the following:-


• Sound knowledge of ESG frameworks, with proven experience delivering, measuring, and reporting ESG outcomes


• Experience in developing environment and sustainability strategies and how to engage staff in its development.


• Strong understanding of reconciliation and Aboriginal engagement, with the ability to align and deliver against the organisation's RAP and Aboriginal Engagement Plan.


• The ability to embed ESG deliverables within organisational strategy and operational plans


• A bold and innovative mindset, forward-thinking and creative, while grounded in practical outcomes.


• Good understanding of compliance and regulatory obligations, with the ability to interpret requirements and align them to organisational performance.
